- For back pain, make an appointment to see your osteopath sooner than later, there's no point suffering for longer than necessary
- Take regular exercise - your osteopath will discuss what works best for you, so you can enjoy pain-free movement
- Hours in one position con cause problems - avoid 'computer hump'. Be conscious of your posture when sitting or standing for any length of time
- During repetitive tasks, vary your rhythm and take frequent breaks to keep your body moving in its natural state
- Adjust car seats and on long journeys, take regular breaks to stretch and move your body, so it does not stiffen up in one seated position, and generate more energy
- Pace yourself with heavy work like gardening - don't risk a disc! Regularly stand up and stretch to allow your muscles to regain their natural shape and loosen up
- Observe children's posture - ensure they swap shoulders regularly when carrying bags to reduce the risk of lop sidedness and extra strain, and encourage regular breaks whilst working on the computer or game consoles. Better still, support exercise rather than stagnation.
- During pregnancy, osteopathy can help your body adjust to changes, and ensure no unnecessary strain is occurring for you or your baby
